 This was a bold move for the Burgers. ‘I know!’ we said. “Let’s not get any support bands, let’s just play two sets of ALL our songs ever” And so we did. Tomas Ford MC’ed the night and did some guest vocals on ‘Lovesong’ an ‘Leprachaun’

 First time Burgers played at Norfolk. Not bad, not bad. Small stage though. Debuted “Accidental Double Dougie” aka “The Princess Song” which featured me playing guitar and Pete playing bass. It went ok.

Wow! We finally made it to Melbourne! This was our first gig there. Not a bad turn out and was just so mint to playing in Melb’s.

 It was the Fauves 1000^th show and we were honoured to be asked to be part of it.  We used the Fauves amps & drum kit, and we played like millionaires. Well we think so anyway. The best. 110 stars out of 5.

Our last show in Melbourne unfortunately coincided with a gig by awesome Canadian band Sloan. Everyone went to Sloan. I wanted to go to Sloan.  BUT, after spending the day driving out to Moorooduc to retrieve our Micro Korg keyboard which had accidentally gone home with the Fauves instead of us,  it ended up being a pretty cool gig. Emma was awesome (and lovely) as was Fred Astereo.

Melbourne toured deemed a success.

Wow! 2 gigs in 2 days – what is this 2003? Harlow Experiments were really ace. Great sound.  Lots of people danced.

 Burgers of Beef turn into a wedding band! This was Pete Burger’s brother’s wedding – we played  a selection of Burgers  hits as well as ‘Electric Dreams’, ‘Rainbow Connection’, ‘Just What I Needed’ and with Pete’s sis helping out on trumpet ‘The Final Countdown’.

 Bit of a weird gig for us this one. But it was a good cause. A guy who said he was a ‘music-o’ligist’ said we were ‘better than Mental As Anything’ but he nearly stared a fight with Dee over our band name.

Looking through some old clippings from Xpress and the like, I realised I missed this gig out! It was Hawaiian themed. A going away party-gig for one of the guys from Cim Ciaru.

109) 7^th Novmember 2009 @ Railway Hotel, Fremantle, with The Gonzo Show & others

Oh god, what a debacle. The Gonzo Show are a band from Queensland who came to Perth to do some shows. We were looking forward to playing with them.  First band played over time, so that meant our about 15 minutes into our set we were told we had 5 minutes left. Fantastic.  What a waste of effort for us. Oh and the promoter (who booked  all the gigs for the Gonzo Show’s tour) didn’t even bother turning up, or organizing a door person. So we didn’t get any money for the gig or even a lousy beer (because the Railway’s policy was that you had to get at least 20 (or 50?) people through the door before you get a rider. BUT THERE WAS NO DOOR!  Complete rubbish. (I’ll just add – that none of this was the fault of The Gonzo Show, just the promoter)

 This was ace, but my, how you have changed Amplifer. Once you felt like home, now I fear for my life there. Well you can probably just guess that this was awesome, so I don’t really need to go into too much detail.

This was a weird gig for me – a few days earlier my house had been driven in to by a car destroying my, wait for it – music room. Luckily all (well most) of my gear was saved, but on the day of this gig our real estate agent told us we had to get out of the house within 7 days. So as you can imagine, not the best mood to play a gig in. ANYWAY, it all went alright, and we played “3 Weeks in Japan” for the first time.

 Our first gig after another lengthy break. This was for an event organised by Mission Australia for Mental Health Week. Nice big stage and great sound. Not many punters, but there were a few. Played “Phone Phreaks” for the first time. It’s good to be back!
